I use REAL Salt

I-use-Real-Salt

Salt gets a bad rep. Doctors and everyone else will tell you to cut back on your salt. But ya know what I say? I say to myself, “Self, pass the salt.” And self does.

Really. I have a love affair with salt. And I always felt bad about our relationship. I was a closet salt user. I think food tastes rather bland without it. And when I was pregnant, I ate so much that I should have swollen up like a big bloated balloon.

But I kicked my guilt to the curb when our family started using Redmond Real Salt last year…now I proudly tout my daily use of salt. Please pass the salt. Booya.

For years we’ve heard that salt is terrible for you – it makes you unhealthy. Cut back on it or die. Basically, right? Pish Posh. Self, pass the salt. I’ll just go ahead and tell you that most of what the mainstream medical community tells us doesn’t amount to a hill of beans to me. *Ducking at the thrown stones*

The truth is, salt is ESSENTIAL for life.  Salt is needed for the function of our nerves and muscles. The truth is also, that all salts are not the same. So yes, maybe the iodized white salt we buy at the grocery is bad for us…but we’ve found a salt that is NOT bad for us.

We use Redmond Real Salt. And we use it plentifully. Redmond salt comes from a salt mine in Utah – straight to your table.

Real Salt is free of additives unlike most of the salt you’ll find in the store. It’s also full of minerals – minerals your body needs.  Did you know that some salts in the store actually contain SUGAR?! Man, they’re trying to sock us full of sugar any time they can.

You’ll see small flecks in your Real Salt – because it’s not bleached and you can see the trace minerals. I like that. Plus, I think it’s pretty…almost like glitter – and I have to take what I can get since Barry has banned glitter from this house.

You don’t have to be ashamed of your salt usage any more – just switch to the good stuff. Salt up those veggies baby!

So, in the spirit of all things frugal, let me go ahead and tell you something – this stuff isn’t cheap. Salt in the store, it’s cheapo.

Redmond will cost you about $6-8/lb. The stuff in the store is like $1 or something. But, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – there is a difference between being cheap and frugal.

Living frugally is being a good steward of what the Lord gives you. If that means that I spend more on salt to give my family the good stuff, then to me that means I’m being a good steward of that grocery budget.  Booya. Please pass the salt.

More Than Alive  is giving away 1 pound of Redmond Real Salt to one of my readers! Wooooo! To enter, just leave a comment below telling me exactly how you feel about salt. That’s it. ;-) I will take entries until Friday, January 25th at midnight EST.

*More Than Alive sent me a pound of Real Salt for this review and post. But, I wouldn’t have posted about it if I didn’t already use and love the product…I’m way too opinionated for that – and you know it. ;-)

Disclosure: Some posts include links to sponsors or affiliates, which give me a small percentage of the sale. You are not obligated to use these links when you make a purchase, but when you do so it helps to support this site, so thank you!

  19. I really like salt.

  20. I love salt, I put it on just about everything. My husband says that it just covers up the natural tastes of foods but I tend to disagree; I think that it enhances it. I would love to try this salt.

  21. We use some nice sea salt for making flavored salts in the mortar and pestal. But, when it comes to the table, we love Real Salt, too! I also have some kosher salt that we use for baking because it’s easier to see, but I think I’ll just start using it to clean the cast iron instead. The flavor of the Real Salt is superior. It would be awesome to gain some more. :)

  22. I love salt. Actually my daughter and I both love salt. It’s awesome. I would love to try Real Salt. It would definantly make me feel better knowing its good for me.

  23. I would loooove to win this salt! We’ve switched to sea salt, but this looks even better!

  24. I love salt the same way you do. If I HAD to choose, I’d rather have salty than sweet.

  25. I just recently found out that salt has a ton of additives!! I am trying Trader Joe’s Sea Salt instead of our regular cheap salt we buy from the grocery store. But not sure how much better that is either! Would love to win this to have great salt for my family!
