This pregnancy took us a bit by surprise. We don’t use birth control, but we have desired to have baby #2 for a while…and it just hadn’t happened. On Christmas morning, I found out we were indeed pregnant. Good present, huh? 😉  We’re rejoicing in God’s blessing on our family. I took four tests to make sure…I’m a cautious little booger. (FYI – I got the best result from the Dollar Tree test. Shocking, huh?) We waited to tell people because we wanted to make sure all was well – with ultrasounds and blood work.

“The Bean” (we called Annie Baby Bean) is due to arrive here sometime around September 6, 2012 – so I’m now in my second trimester. We’re in the process of trying to find a new home. My sister graduates medical school in August and then gets married on September 1st – and I’m her matron of honor. Needless to say, it’s going to be a busy summer around here. 😉

I told Barry by giving him a Christmas gift a day late. In a gift bag, I wrapped up the positive test and this awesome tshirt that I had purchased last summer from Jelly Bean Apparel. It was too perfect not to buy. 😀

When he opened it, he said “So, we’re not pregnant?” He didn’t know that TWO lines meant it was a positive test….guess I should have included the instructions.  😀

We didn’t really do anything special to tell our parents. We just told each set on the same day. Barry’s parents were excited. I think I put my parents into shock…you know, the wedding and all – hard to fit a gigantic pregnant woman into a bridesmaid dress. 😉 But they’re tickled pink too.

I told my sister (who is away at school) by sending her a card with this picture on the front.  I made the shirt for Annie using the method that I told y’all about – with freezer paper. Jamey likes being an Aunt – she can hype Annie all up and then send her home…meaning the next day I have to do everything “like Aunt Jamey.” That’s okay – I’ll pay her back one day. 😉

So far this pregnancy has been a lot harder than my first. I’ve been very sick – some days I didn’t even get off the couch. I struggled a lot with being sad all the time because I just felt so sick and tired. The sickness has subsided now, and I am starting to get very eager about this child.

We’ve decided that we WILL find out the sex of this baby, but we aren’t going to tell anyone….or tell names. We didn’t tell either of those with Annie – and just in case you didn’t know, it drives people BATTY.

We hope to do things different this time, because we have a little experience under our belt – last time we knew jack squat.  😉

There you have it – our big announcement.

  1. Woohoo congrats! Our daughter was our first, and I had no clue what to do, but then, I had no experience with kids, either!

  2. Again, I am very excited for you! Annie is so sweet in her Big Sister shirt.

    • I made it last summer….so it’s too little now. I took that picture last July. 😉 Gotta make another one.

  3. So excited and pumped and ecstatic and jazzed for you three! I cannot wait! And I think it is total hogwash you will keep us in the dark. But that is just something you would do, isn’t :)

  4. What an awesome Christmas present, but I feel for you on the sickness. I was sick the first 8 months with my first. No joking either. It was horrible….the 2nd wasn’t that bad, but the 1st trimester was rough. I can’t wait to find out what your having!

  5. Congratulations! I would never be able to keep the gender and name a secret! And I love that t-shirt – too cute.

  6. Teresa Hall says:

So happy for you. I am glad you are feeling better now and can look forward to the arrival of the little one.

  7. Congratulations!!

I am glad that you are starting to feel better! Hope the rest of the pregnancy goes great!

hmmm maybe we should have a contest 😉 I think you are having another little girl…

  8. Love stories like this! We didn’t find the gender of any of the four of our littles, and it drives people BATTY! It’s a lot of fun though, and there are so few surprises in life anymore! Congrats again, Stacy!

    • Thanks Leslie! :-) I’m glad I have your support on the gender thing – I might be coming to you later when people are driving me bananas. lol

  9. Congratulations! We didn’t find out the sex of our last two babies, and the annoyed people (the serious ones, not the friends) are kind of funny after awhile, aren’t they? I always wonder, why do you care SO MUCH whether I’m having a girl or a boy?

  10. Sweetness says:

:) We were pregnant on Christmas day too! Due about 1 wk after you :)

  11. You know I am thrilled for you! It’s even more fun being due 3 weeks apart!!! :p and this kid is going to be soooo cute bc Annie is a cutie patootie!! Congrats again, girl!!!:)

    • Your girls are pretty stinkin’ cute too…..and with three of them, they can start their own singing group. lol

  12. I’m so happy for you! You have a lot on your plate this year, let me know if there is anything I can do to help. oh, btw, Sept 10th is a great birthdate…I should know! Loved the t-shirts, and Annie looks soooo cute!

    Love you guys!

  13. Congrats! My husband and I are having our sixth! Due September 9! Our prayers are with you!! We are very excited about our homebirth!!! I would love twins!!!! Last two pregnancies were only 10 mo apart!

  14. We didn’t find out with any of our 3, but I made guesses (all correct). My gma did the “needle test” with the 1st 2 & I did myself (gma had passed) on the last (all also correct). The test has never been wrong for me yet 😉 Congrats! Come see me & we will do the needle test…lol

  15. I had 2 prego’s in my wedding party :) No worries – you’ll find a dress to work!! Congrats again!

    • My mom is making them, so I’m very blessed…..she can just make mine BIG and adjust it closer to the date if needed. :-)

  16. Deborah Holman says:

The old wives tale is that with a lot of morning sickness the baby will have a lot of hair. Congratulations. Babies are indeed a blessing from God.

    • I hope that’s true!!! :-) I didn’t have much sickness with Annie at all, but she had a head full of hair anyway….I’ll keep my fingers crossed. :-)

  17. I really want to congratulate you on your pregnancy and getting through that 1st trimester. It really is exciting – especially for me vicariously through other pregnant mommas, hehe. I’m not a big fan of being in the pregnant state. I’m not one of those moms that glows, no ma’am. And I was like you in that while the first pregnancy was mostly easy peasy, I’m fairly certain the 2nd wanted to kill me – especially in that first trimester!! It also made me wonder at the gender of the baby if it was different than my first (you know, more of a specific hormone or something making me ill) – and I wonder the same for you. But I won’t say nuthin’! 😀
I’ve become a big fan of your blog over the past few months- I even sent my husband your post about gradually living more naturally telling him this is what I wanted for our family, too. I prefaced it by saying that like us, you lived by God, by Dave Ramsey, and by my mom – the latter being merely geographical, haha.
I’m so looking forward to seeing your family be blessed in so many ways. Will be praying for you!

  18. I love it ! That is totally awesome !!! I will do the exact same thing one day because truth be told I kinda love driving people batty with lack of information !!! ; )

  19. Are you having twins?

  20. HOORAY FOR BEAN!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations on your blessing. I have been very encouraged and blessed by your blog. I am the mother of 5 blessings ages 1 to 6 and my husband is a full-time college student. You will be so proud we have no debt, except for our house. By God’s grace, VERY frugal living, and encouragement from Dave Ramsey’s show we are making it through college. I appreciate your reality, that living frugally, naturally, takes time, patience and perseverance.
Here is what I have learned, a few tips I wish I had know. Take ’em or leave ’em. Start to freeze meals now that you can bake when Bean comes. Pancakes are a new mommies best friend (can be made while nursing). The first few weeks can be tricky figuring out how to juggle, but one day it will all click and be “natural”. When someone offers help, take it! :-) Blessings to you! I am just so excited for you! Our 5th baby I found out (the other four were surprises) so I could be ready with all the clothes washed.

    Blessings and congratulations!!! -NBM

    • :-) Great tips! I did freezer cooking with Annie and it was a total blessing. I’m hoping to be in our new home in time enough to do plenty of that. :-) Thank you!!

  21. Stacey,

Thanks so much for including our shirts in your blog! I’m glad it worked out so well!

  22. So happy for you Stacy! :) And that picture of Annie is ADORABLE! Can’t wait to find out what you’re having :)

  23. Congratulations on the bean! Glad you are feeling better and excited!!

  24. Congratulations! Totally love the t-shirt and pic of Annie! Hoping you stay healthy the rest of the pregnancy :)

  25. Yay Bean!Congratulations! It’s interesting, some of the reading I have been doing, and how some people get as hung up on a due date as the baby’s sex and name… Honestly, based on what I’ve read, it’s more like a “due month” when, at any time (or even the END of that time), the baby could come or wait. Imagine when I get pregnant, and everyone’s going to want to know when I’m due, and I say “July.”
Keeping secrets is fun, and good for you for having fun with it!

  26. I’m so happy for you and your family!
    God Bless!

  27. Beth Fleshman says:

Congratulations Stacy and Barry and Annie!! So excited for you all!

  28. I’m so happy for you guys! You are such great parents, and I just know that lil Annie will be an awesome big sister! I never found out with any of my (3) kids what the gender was, I loved the ultimate surprise! I can understand why you want/need to know though. I am praying for a happy, healthy baby and Momma! Congratulations!

You said in your post, you hope to do things different this time…are you just referring to finding out the gender? Or what is it that you would do different?

  29. Congrats! Don’t you just love those silly husbands!?! Looking forward to your little girl holding her little brother/sister

  30. Congrats Stacy with the new bundle of joy that is on his/her way.God Bless!

  31. Congrats, that is so exciting!

  32. Awww…congratulations!!!

  33. Kate @ Modern Alternative Mama says:

Congrats! You are so funny though, because you know it’s big news and you include all the details, then you end with “so there it is” like it doesn’t matter, lol.

  34. Congradulations, I also have baby #2 on the way, due Aug. 16,2012!!!
