Last year I was motivated by my friend Carla to start a “365 Project.” What is that? It’s taking a picture every day of the year – something you want to remember. I had already done that for the first part of Annie’s life, but I liked the challenge to keep it up. Now as 2011 comes to a close, I find that I have a picture of Annie for virtually each day of the year – and I’m tickled with myself! Annie loves to sit down at the computer and let me scroll through her pictures. I can tell it’s already important to her, but I know that as she grows it will be even more important – to her AND to Barry and me. [Read more…]

My friend Amanda from Spinning Yarns and Other Things is guest posting today for Fix and Forget Friday. Thanks Amanda!
Beef Burgundy Subs with Au Jus
Yes, they are as good as that sounds. This is my favorite Crock Pot Recipe, from Best-Loved Slow Cooker Recipes.
For this recipe, you will need a 3lb Chuck or bottom round roast, onions, a dry burgundy or red wine, truffle balsamic vinegar, beef bouillon (opt), Worcestershire sauce, thyme, and garlic powder. However, if you are a wine lover who would like to have awesome wine tours, then you can check out this wine tours oregon here for more info!

Kitchen Tip Tuesday – 12/27/11
I’m forgetful at this point in my life….I have Momnesia. I can’t remember as much as I used to – especially when it comes to temperatures when I’m using my griddle. My mom’s griddle has a handy-dandy list on it with the temperatures at which you should cook certain foods. So, to save myself a lot of time and Swagbucks searching while trying to cook, I copied my mom’s list down and taped it to the inside of my cabinet door right over where I normally use my griddle. Now, my problem is solved! Cook pancakes at 375 degrees. 😀 [Read more…]
Fix and Forget Friday – Crock Pot Stuffed Onions
Today we have a guest post by Ginger from Crock Pot Recipe Exchange.
When it’s the holidays I like to make something a little extraordinary, but also easy. Since onions are an inexpensive staple in the grocery stores I knew that a wonderful side dish could made out of them.
Once onions are cooked they have a mild sweetness that turns them into a comfort food. That alone makes everyone asks for seconds and the recipe.
Here is how I make them: [Read more…]
Annie’s 2011 Christmas Gifts
Last year I laid out for you how we approach Christmas with Annie. We’re not your typical family when it comes to Christmas. First off, we celebrate Advent with activities instead of gifts and we don’t “do Santa Claus.” Does Annie know about Santa? Sure….we read her fiction stories. This year we also read her the story of the real St. Nicholas and that’s a tradition that we hope to continue each year.
Every year Annie will get three gifts from us and her Christmas stocking filled with fun by useful goodies (insert link). The three gifts symbolize the three gifts that Christ received from the Three Wise Men – gold, frankincense, and myrrh. I think most kids get WAY TOO MUCH STUFF for Christmas – stuff they don’t need. We try to cut down on the amount of “stuff” that finds its way into this house. So, here’s a look at what we got Annie this year for Christmas. When she’s older and can read, I’ll have to do these posts AFTER Christmas…..because if she’s anything like her Daddy, she’s REALLY NOSEY (I hope you’re reading this Barry). [Read more…]

Eggnog Ice Cream + 5 Uses for Leftover Eggnog
I made my very first homemade eggnog this season. I usually buy it from the store so we can each have a cup…..and only a cup. It’s RICH – and I don’t mean like Donald Trump. And honestly, I didn’t really like it that much – I just wanted to drink eggnog. It makes me feel cool. But then I came across this recipe from The Purposed Heart for Pumpkin Eggnog and it ROCKS MY FACE OFF! Seriously – it’s delicious. The stuff in the store doesn’t even compare – and plus, if you make this then you’ll know what’s in it….instead of the mysterious “natural flavoring.” What the heck is natural flavoring anyway? Do yourself a favor and make this. You’ll love it. [Read more…]
Relationships and Money: Charitable Giving When We Don’t Agree
Since last week’s post about his money and her money was so popular (and controversial!), I thought I’d tackle another sensitive subject this week – relationships and tithing/charitable giving. I’ve gotten several questions regarding the tithe and how it applies to us as Christians today. Even though Stacy wrote on what the Bible teaches about tithing a while back, one thing I would like to address is the issue of what to do when your spouse disagrees about a course of action when it comes to giving.
First off, if couples agreed about everything when it came to how to spend their money, it would be SCARY. So let me start by saying it is perfectly okay to disagree about money. In fact, I would encourage you and your spouse to have some disagreements about things every now and then. It will help make sure you actually communicate with each other about what matters to you, and that is always a good thing! [Read more…]
These are a Few of my Favorite……Cookbooks
I’ve always loved cookbooks. If you’ve visited my house, you know I have a floor to ceiling bookshelf that is FULL of cookbooks – and I still have some in boxes that won’t fit on the shelf. I need to pare these down, and will do that at a yard sale this spring – I’ll only hang on to my very favorites. I know Barry is very relieved – he probably feels like the cookbooks are about to take over. Today I’ll share with you my top 5 favorite cookbooks. [Read more…]
Crock Pot Spiced Apple Pumpkin Butter
Today we have a guest post from my friend Rachel who blogs over at Day2Day Joys. Thanks Rachel!
I am so glad to be posting here at Humorous Homemaking today! I’ll let you in on a little secret… Before Stacy and I actually “knew” each other, we went to the same college but never met one another. While in college we both fell in love and went on about our lives. We became mothers and have both made a switch to a more natural lifestyle when it comes to health and food. She has commented on my blog and I have commented on hers on numerous occasions. I was flipping through our college bi-annual magazine a few months ago and found her name in the back in the “where are they now” section. I about fell out of my chair! The same Stacy that I had been corresponding with in blog comments, was someone I who I attended college with, there’s no telling but we may have been in a class together. It’s amazing how God works things out, isn’t it? [Read more…]
